Plans for Preston get the go-ahead

The team at Godden Allen Lawn is delighted to have been awarded the contract to design a new community centre at Preston, near Wingham.

Our plans for bigger, better community facilities on the site of the existing sixties-built hall found favour with the Preston Community Centre Development committee, which has now asked us to take the scheme forward.

Lots of new housing locally means this will be an important facility serving a growing community – and the prominent village centre site meant it was important to come up with an eye-catching and well-designed scheme.

We have already helped make sure the committee can include as much of its ‘wish list’ as possible while keeping to the budget, and we are continuing to refine the scheme.

As well as a main hall big enough for short mat bowls, the building will include a store room, reception area, kitchen, consultation room and committee room, toilets, a smaller hall with facilities for a pre-school nursery and a play area. It will be fully accessible.

“We are delighted to have won the contract for this important scheme,” said director Nick Lawn. “As well as the design, we will be responsible for organising planning permission and building regulation approvals and supervising the contractor appointed to do the work.”
