About Us

Godden Allen Lawn is a responsive, customer-focused practice that offers a comprehensive range of architectural, building surveying and construction consultancy services. Our emphasis is on combining a high quality service with a dynamic, creative and imaginative approach.
The practice was started in 1976 by Peter Godden, who was joined by Paul Allen in 1979. The company become Godden Allen Lawn when Nick Lawn joined as a Partner in June 2007. Paul Allen has since retired and in October 2011 Nigel Curtis was welcomed as a Partner.

While we are proud of our 40-year reputation and continue to embrace traditional values and standards of service, the practice is forward thinking and keen to embrace the best new ideas and make good use of modern technology.

Architectural design is one of Godden Allen Lawn's core disciplines. We pride ourselves on delivering innovative, imaginative and sensitive design solutions that take into account timescale, cost and practical constraints to deliver the best possible design for a given budget.

As well as domestic building and RICS homebuyers' surveys, Godden Allen Lawn carries out commercial condition and stock surveys as well as measured surveys.

Whatever the scale of the project, we believe clients deserve to be able to communicate with us quickly and easily in order to monitor progress. To make this happen, every project we undertake is overseen by a partner who remains the point of contact for the client.

Combining building surveyors and architects in the Godden Allen Lawn team enables us to benefit from the particular strengths of the two professions. Our architectural team provides the design flair and creativity to develop concepts and ideas, while our building surveyors add the construction and technical expertise needed to turn a great design into a practical and cost-effective building.

Our professional and senior technical staff are members or Fellows of professional bodies including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, The Royal Institute of British Architects and the Chartered Institute of Building.

Nick Lawn BSc Hons MRICS

Nick’s early career was as a landscape gardener and landscape designer before he became a chartered surveyor in 2000. Nick’s particular experience and expertise is in architectural design and construction consultancy. He has worked on a variety of projects in numerous sectors including commercial, healthcare, education and industrial/manufacturing buildings, in many cases acting as lead consultant and managing multi-disciplinary design teams.

Nigel Curtis BSc HONS MRICS

After a short period of working for KCC in the early eighties, where he qualified as a Professional Associate of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Nigel worked for Cluttons for more than 20 years, both in the south east and in London. He has a wide range of experience of general professional work covering dilapidations, inspection and planned maintenance reports, defect diagnosis, planning applications, party wall awards, and acting as CDM Coordinator (now principal designer).
